Along with backwards design, the use of learning objective verbs (there is a cornucopia of websites with long lists of verbs) is a great starting point when actually writing out learning objectives. Very useful and standard operating procedure for me.
The following table shows the connection between Bloom categories of learning, learning objective verbs, the associated learning objective and finally the activity itself. The goal is to create continuity of design and purpose that shows a clear and consistent path from learning objective to assessment activity.
| Bloom categories | Learning objective verbs | Learning Objective | Activity |
| Analysis(analyze, classify, connect, explain, infer) | analyze | Analyze recent trends in artist and project development within various entertainment genres (i.e., music, film, video, gaming, performance, etc.) by discussing in the designated forum according to the discussion rubric. | Using the materials from readings, links and web resources analyze recent trends in artist and project development within at least two different entertainment genres (i.e., music, film, video, gaming, performance, etc.). Discuss your analysis in the designated forum according to the forum discussion rubric. |
| Synthesis(combine, integrate, plan, create, design, formulate) | integrate | Integrate a new artist or project creation solution from one entertainment industry genre into another posting the solution to the designated forum using the discussion rubric. | Pick an artist or project creation solution from our discussions, instructional modules or web research and integrate that solution into another entertainment industry genre. For example, take a project or artist creation solution from the film industry and apply it to the music industry. Post your solution to the designated discussion forum according to the discussion forum rubric. |
| Evaluation(assess, recommend, convince, compare, conclude, summarize) | evaluate | Evaluate the effects of digital media on artist and project development within the entertainment industry by posting reflections in their e-portfolio according to the reflections rubric. | Throughout the past four semesters we have discussed issues affected by the proliferation of digital media in the entertainment industry. Evaluate how those issues might impact artist and project development within the entertainment industry and post your reflections in the blog area of your e-portfolio. You may focus on a single genre or area within the entertainment industry or apply your comments to a broader perspective. Refer to the blog reflections rubric. |
